My Favorite Toy Pics of 2024: The Top Three

OK, let’s wrap this puppy up. I have mumblemumble new toys I need to be taking pictures of so that they can not make the 2025 list most likely. I think the big thing that makes these my top three is the extent to which they turned out the way I wanted them to. Which is always my goal.

#3: “Origin Story”

This was the pic I made when I got the NECA Mirage Splinter, who came with radioactive ooze and baby turtles, so the idea was right there for me.

The two big things here are how hard I went on matching the lighting in the background, and making what is essentially two pictures so I could inset one into the other. I’d later use the fuzzy edge technique for my Tusken Raider pics but this one is prettier. That one is funnier.

#2: “Dogs Playing Poker With Wolverine”

So much went into this to get what I wanted. First, I had to assemble all the dogs in the collection. Then I had to set up the table and chairs and get the one shot without everyone falling over or a domino catastrophe.

Then it was removing the dogs from the Dogs Playing Poker painting, and then it was following a paint texture effect tutorial step by step and then making some guesses when the steps didn’t match my software to get the final paint texture on the figures.

But man, it’s almost exactly what I wanted. Except for having to use two wrestling tables and a weak tablecloth for the table. A real round table would have been ideal but I didn’t want to digitally put one in.

#1: “Timeless”

This one is like a 99% execution of the vision. I’m sure there are flaws I can’t see, but there’s SO MUCH going on behind the scenes of this shot. Old techniques, new techniques, Normie Squad crowd pieces, the black and white except for the lips, I just love how this turned out.

I look at this and I hear the entrance music in my head.
