NXT Takeover: Philadelphia

THE DREAM IS ALIVE

Despite only having one out of three champions I would qualify as “strong” champions, Takeover Philadelphia managed to put on a pretty strong show, albeit one with what I think is a huge misstep at the end.

Good thing I waited and they finally got around to announcing the kickoff matches. Let’s see if I can get some predictions right.

A lot going on in Philly right now.

Technically this is already in progress, but I made these predictions two days ago and forgot to post them and Im’ avoiding all social media and news until I watch it tomorrow anyway. Takeover!

RUMBLE TIME! But first we have to get through the 25th Anniversary episode of Raw, a mediocre Smackdown, a scandal-ravaged 205 Live, and NXT. Events Of Significance:

Black LIghtning: “Lawanda: The Book Of Hope”

They will regret this.

Having set the stage and tone in the pilot episode, Black Lightning picked up where it left off, building up some more characters and bringing our hero around to being a hero again, despite the damage it’ll do to his personal life.

The Flash: “The Elongated Knight Ris

Oh, hey, it’s... a costume.

Someday, The Flash will find the right level of goofy dumb fun, but this week was not that week.

The Punisher: “Danger Close” / “Home”

Weird-lookin’ dude.

Agents Of SHIELD: “THe Last Day”

Everything’s going to hell around them, by the way.

Agentts of SHIELD managed to make their hopeful destination of a bunch of rebels living and making plans in the remains of the Zephyr on the shattered earth last nearly 20 minutes before blowing the whole thing up again.

Black Lightning: “The Resurrection”

It’s a weird costume but a good show.

Black Lightning is, if you’ll pardon the expression, shockingly good.

I’ve been behind on discussing the superhero shows, so with Flash and Arrow premiering this week, it’s a good time to get caught up on Agents of SHIELD and Punisher. I still need to watch this week’s AoS, so this covers the last three or four where stuff blew up real good.

I know I’m like four episodes behind on Agents of SHIELD, but basically it turned into the Fitz Is Awesome show with a bunch of episodes about how Fitz Is Awesome, and you don’t need to know much more than that. This season has been firing on all cylinders, and has been a joy to watch.It’s like everything good about last season with none of the weak stuff.

There’s one more week of shows before Takeover and the Royal Rumble, but only NXT feels like it. Raw and Smackdown were slow as hell this week, and 205 Live was a mess. Still, there were a few EVENTS OF SIGNIFICANCE.

Yes, I Am An Old Nerd

On the off chance any of you in fact question either my old or nerd bonafides:

I appear to* have cracked a rib last night. Not in an undergoround fight club, not in a sporting situation, but by stretching too far over the arm of a chair to reach a charging cable for my iPad. An actual thing that happened to an actual person.

*Unconfirmed medically because it’s not that bad and I’ve cracked a rib before and it feels like that and it’s not really treatable and all the urgent care clinics are inconvenient as fuck and yes I’ll go in tomorrow if it seems necessary

The holiday weeks of WWE were more eventful than I thought they’d be, but still pretty light on content. I could mention stuff like The Not Bullet Club reunion, but that doesn’t really mean anything now, does it? EVENTS OF SIGNIFICANCE:
