Oh, The Metahumanity! (10/25-28)

So close to nailing this bit, yet so far.
In a shocking twist, this week, Oh, The Metahumanity kills off a major character. I'm not expecting it to be replaced anytime soon, and I certainly don't expect it to come back from the dead.

@midnight Power Rankings (Oct 25-27)

Possibly the week's realy winner. Buzzer.
Short week on @midnight, but a solid one. Colton Dunn won the week with a couple of absolutely killer jokes. Jenny Zigrino gets bumped down the list for the most arbitrary judgment I make in this ranking - going to six words in a BLANK IN FIVE WORDS Hashtag War not once, but twice.

Motherfuckin' Lucha Underground! (Gifts of the Gods)

Goddamn I love this show so much.
This week's MFLU moment may be the most motherfucking Lucha Undergroundy moment in history. So awesome.

Weekly Wrasslin; Wroundup (NXT)

Live on tape from her side yard, it's MICKIE JAMES!
We're finally finishing the first round of the Dusty Classic! Not as great an NXT as the last couple of weeks, but not bad.

Weekly Wrasslinn' Wroundup (SD Live)

James Ellsworth has a sad.
Smackdown is in a weird place right now with no PPV of its own on the horizon and everything geared toward beating Raw in Survivor Series in a few weeks. Luckily, James Ellsworth, because any show with two hands has a fighting chance at being entertaining.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (raw)

Ball taken, home went.
Raw comes to you from my home of Minneapolis. Am I there? No I am not. But I will be judging the hometown crowd extra harshly as I make my Hell In The Cell predictions.

@midnight Power Rankings (Oct 17-20)

Hey, I can still do screencaps from the Comedy Central app on my iPad!
This week, let's talk a little about Jesse Joyce. I run hot and cold on Jesse Joyce on @midnight. I freely admit this, and I think a review of the Power Rankings would bear that out. But when he hits, he hits HARD. His performance last Tuesday was up there in the all time greats of @midnight history, and he beat out a LOT of good performances this week.

Oh, The Metahumanity! (Oct 17-23)

HE HAS RETURNED TO SAVE US ALL.
This one technically isn't late because I couldn't watch "Legends of Tomorrow" until tonight and nfinish off the week. SO THERE. A drastic uptick for The Flash this week, but we'll see if they can maintain.

Motherfuckin' Lucha Underground! (Payback Time)

That's what you get for leaving him for dead
This week brings us the tale of Puma's redemption after his loss to Mil Muertes at the end of Season 1, plus more DOOMDIAL and more unique opportunities.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (NXT)

Way more interesting than mean Aussies
NXT is really firing on all cylinders lately. ANother really good week packed with stuff that made the filler tolerable.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (SD Live)

WWE finally gets "dumb fun" right on Smackdown
A fairly successful Smackdown this week, all things considered, thanks almost entirely to the Styles-Ambrose-Ellsworth stuff, which continues to be ridiculous gold.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (Raw)

Dooooooooooooon't caaaaaaare! Dooooooooooooon't caaaaaaare!
OK, for the record, the main reason I shit on Goldberg at the end of this WWW is because I don't have the one thing required to like Goldberg's return. I wasn't watching WCW when he went on his streak. I have zero emotional connection to or nostalgia for the man or the character. If you do, you'll probably see things differently.

@midnight Power Rankings (Oct 10-13)

Monday was a simpler time.
Before we begin, the most fascinating thing about this week was watching @midnight track, almost perfectly, the rise and fall over the shark of Ken Bone. From the overenthusiastic embrace on Monday, to the half-assed Skype appearance on Wednesday, to the almost ironic Ramon Rivas cosplay on Thursday, it was was an abject lesson on the perils of instant celebrity or something. And since I'm posting this the following Monday, you'll all have to use Wikipedia to even remember who Ken Bone was.

Oh, The Metahumanity! (Oct 11-13)

DON'T JUDGE ME. OK, judge me a little.
SO MUCH CW. All the CW. Well, not Supergirl. I'm still not willing to commit to Supergirl. But so much else. Agents of SHIELD is still winning overall, but only because there's no time for more Luke Cage right now.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (NXT)

BANG ZOOM RIGHT IN THE KISSER
Behold, that rarest of beasts! An epsiode of NXT where a bunch of shit actually happened!

Motherfuckin' Lucha Underground! (Open Road To Revenge)

Next Best THing
Just want to mention yet again that thanks to iOS 10 and the failure of the Internet to screengrab appropriately, I cannot show you the image that earned this week's MFLU moment.

Monthly Free Games (October 2016)

Pretty much exactly what meets the eye, but still good.
This is officially the latest I've ever gotten the Monthly Free Games up, I think. Especially given that the first Tuesday (when the Sony stuff drops) wasn't that deep into the month. Especially sad given the paucity of good stuff this month, although a bunch of you get to enjoy the best game here for the first time, while I already owned it.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (SD Live)

Way more entertaining than it coulda shoulda been.
Just when I'm starting to question if and why I still like Dean Ambrose, Smackdown Live gives me so many reasons to say yes. Shame about the rest of the show.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (Raw)

The man with no face joins the division with almost no heels.
Note to WWE - it's a bad sign when, at the start of your show, you tell me your next PPV is three weeks away, and I'm happy because it's not two. So we get a bit of a break before Hell In A Cell.

WWE No Mercy 2016

Called this one, heh.
The tradition of brand-only PPV's not being that great continues, although to No Mercy's credit, two of the three title matches were good to great. But an unexpected injury and the shallow roster ultimately took their toll.

@midnight Power Rankings (Oct 3-6)

Unicorn diiiiiick
After the previous week's insanity, apparently the watchword for last week's @midnights is "average"

Motherfuckin' Lucha Underground! (The Prince And The Monster)

I think Puma's been wroking on his upper body strength. Holy shit.
I could write an intro about how great the main event was this week, or I could just watch this GIF from it over and over and over.

Oh, The Metahumanity! (Oct 4-5)

I like Wally's costume and not much else.
Agents of SHIELD took the week off, possibly to get out of the way of the CW premiere week, which was good for me, because it let me wash the Flash taste out of my mout with an episode of Luke Cage.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (SD Live)

Like so much else, a good idea dragged out way too long.
One show left before No Mercy, which is probably gonna suck super-hard. Let's see what Smackdown offers to get us ready.

Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (Raw)

My relationship with the Raw brand is very odd right now. It has some of my favorite talents on it, but it's so goddamned uneven. It's like all the moving parts in the show almost never line up to where the story, the crowd, and the in-ring action complement each other. Tonight, for example, that only happened in the main event.

Monday, October 3, 2016

Oh, The Metahuanity! (9/27-10/2)

It's not subtle imagery, but it works.
A good week for superhero shows before this week's CW deluge. I'm going to try to keep with at least one Luke Cage per week, but regular readers of this space know how that shit usually goes down.

@midnight Power Rankings (Sep 26-29)

They did this, and so much more.
Now that's how you commit to a gimmick. Monday's 90's episode of @midnight didn't settle for a hair drapes wig or having on 90's comedians as guests, it went full-bore set redress like an MTV game show, and it was glorious.

But it's Tuesday's trifecta of Helbig and the Two Harts that wins a three-way tie for first, both for the jokes themselves, a hot crowd, and a bunch of great reactions to some top-shelf game content. I refuse to choose between the three of them, regardless of what the autonumbering says.

  1. Grace Helbig (T)
  2. Hannah Hart (T)
  3. Mamrie Hart (T)
  4. Emo Phillips (M)
  5. Margaret Cho (M)
  6. Dave Foley (Th)
  7. Suzy Nakamura (Th)
  8. Jaleel White (M)
  9. Ken Jeong (Th)
  10.  Bruce Campbell (W)
  11. Justin Willman (W)
  12. Nick Swardson (W)

Monday and Tuesday are absolute musts, of course. Thursday's is fine, perfectly average episode. Wednesday is worth watching for Bruce Campbell's debut and that's about it.

  1. Monday
  2. Tuesday
  3. Thursday
  4. Wednesday
