Sometimes, nostalgia is just a shape.Great Mazinger is a shape from my very early childhood. We knew them as the Shogun Warriors, and they were huge, hollow, vinyl robots with like four joints and removable hands. We didn’t know they came from Japanese cartoons. We just saw them in stores and on TV commercials and in catalogs and sometimes we thought they were super cool and sometimes those grooves in our brain sat dormant for 50 years and then you see a preorder picture and the brain goes HOLY SHIT THAT SHAPE.
So yeah I bought an Amazing Yamaguchi Great Mazinger. It’s glorious. It’s black and silver and red and tubes and angles and little bits and effects pieces.
This is my third Yamaguchi, and it’s more sturdy and less fussy than the Batman and Joker I have, but it is still fussy - the traditional “hands without pegs fall off a lot” thing, buts popping off in general, but also I’d rather have ‘em pop than break. Posing is very nice, very smooth, and not too dangerous in the “stuff falling off before you hit it” category.
More as I do more pics, but ROCKET PUNCHING GODZILLA!
