See, it’s funny because she spent most fo the original animated series “juggling” these two dudes.I do like it when Hasbro reissues a figure I realized too late I should have gotten, whether it’s an old Spidey villain from before I was collecting, or someone from last year when circumstances changed, like that Cable I just got.
With Jean, the reason I’ve passed on her every time this outfit has been made is that I don’t really like it. I don’t really like any of Jean’s non-Phoenix outfits from either incarnation of the cartoon. It doesn’t do it for me. BUT.
I’ve now assembled a mostly complete collection of the animated X-rosters and it’s become fuckin’ weird and creepy that I don’t have a Jean on the team. I mean I bought Sunspot FFS. So I’d kind of been keeping an eye on her original release on eBay but it never got cheap enough, and then they did a new run, so I grabbed one.
And it’s a very good representation of the lanky, slightly stylized ‘97 version of the character. Couple hands, hair-up ponytail head. Fine. Meets expectations. Will make any future group shots look less misogynistic.
The pic was fun. It’s not exactly how I wanted it to turn out but I’m happy with the pose, I’m happy with how I made the text look like it’s rippling with the flag, and I’m mostly happy with the positioning and spacing of the juggled objects. Lighting and texture isn’t the best match but I’ve had a lot going on hobby-wise this week so I wasn’t into reshooting or too much post-production. Gets the joke across.
