Thank you, car auction website.
Let’s talk build on Tangerine, because Mezco shit is very different than most figures. The core is a metal frame containing most of the articulation. The torso and thighs are a soft squishy layer over that. The arms and legs knee to boot seem to have a hard plastic shell. The hands, boots, and head are all more traditional action figure plastic construction. And then there’s a cloth bodysuit over that.
The net result is a figure that is very sturdy while also tight enough that you end up being deliberate and careful with it just because that’s how it works. You naturally want to be careful to avoid damaging the bodysuit but you also kind of can’t move the figure fast enough for it to be a risk. And the bodysuit has a lot of give to it so that doesn’t seem super dangerous, at least so far. We’ll see once I’ve shot six more poses.
For the second line of the Tangerine song, I was glad I found the red Lincoln Continental on an auction site because it also had the interior. It didn’t have a velvet dashboard, though, so, in a feat of personal pride, I manufactured one by applying a red velvet texture to the dashboard and playing with layer overlay effects and some other tweaks to match the lighting and contours of the original. I’m pretty damn pleased with it.
