This one is a long chain of consecutive incidents and ideas. It started when one of the Toy Pals on Bluesky posted a picture of this guy, from a few years ago, from Nacellle’s reimagining of the 80’s toy line “Robo Squad”. The figure is super 80’s computer coded, even without the digital C-64 additions I added here. He struck a chord with me, I did some searching, I found a retailer who had him for a reasonable price, and I just kept the tab open until we needed free shipping on something else from that retailer.
So I got him, and he is VERY large (which I knew) and his elbow and knee joints were better than I thought they were (weird YouTube review made the legs seem like they only went 45 instead of 90?) and he’s just generally cool. He has some weird ported guns and cameras on sculpted… cables that do suck but are also fully optional.
So then, when thinking about the pic, I got the idea for a buddy cop movie with the Robot Waiter, and then I tried to think about what a buddy cop movie with a robot waiter would be called, and the only pun I could think of was “Wait And See”, and then I spent some time wondering how to attach “See” or “C” to this Maxx 89 figure, and that led me to my youth and the Commodore 64 and everything flowed from there in a series of increasingly ridiculous easter egg jokes.
And then I reshot the main pic because I wanted the robots to have a more vertical orientation so they’d fit better and more poroportionally within the frame. And I decided to add the firing effects to the miniguns. And one of the shell casing effects broke. DAMN YOU VALAVERSE!
