It was, ultimately, my own damn fault.First, the stuff. Specifically, a length of chain link fence and a garbage can, which I ordered from Canadian Etsyite “GrimeCity”, and the parking meters, which I did not send but were included as a bonus, either out of seller goodwill kindness or it taking like five weeks to get out the door after I ordered it.
His whole deal is city stuff - things like wall air conditioners and dumpsters and stuff like this and pay phones. And it’s all available in regular or extra grimy, with dirt or rust or graffiti or all of the above added to it at a slight extra cost. I went with the plain for maximum versatility.
The fence is just… an action figure sized panel of chain link fense, printed (I presume) and painted, with small bases so it stands freely. But it’s exactly that. The trash can liner is I think actual trash can bag, but very specifically bunched up and tied and glued in place so it looks incredible. The parking meters are basic 3D prints but the details are nice and there were three of them and I was expecting zero.
Bus I made a mistake and that’s why this picture took five evenings and an afternoon to finish. See, I’m still working with Halide, the manual camera app, and it means an even bigger discrepancy between what my eyes see, what my phone sees, and what the Halide settings give me in the photo. So the pic (this was one shot except for Daredevil) that worked the best didn’t have enough contrast with the background for ANY kind of automatic selection tool to work. So I had to erase the inside of every single diamond and triangle in that fence by hand. Yeah, I coulda and probably shoulda just reshot, but it was a complicated setup and I didn’t think it’d take as long as it did.
Happy with the results, though. I built this street scene myself starting with the alley I found for The REd Demon, widening the alley, moving it back from the bottom of the screen with the brick walls, then adding the sidewalk in front so i had a place to put the meters and the trash can.
