OK, Hasbro, finish the job.First, they fixed R2-D2. Then, earlier this year, we got the revised, no-soft-goods Luke and Leia which were mostly improvements. Now we have a ground-up redesign of Han Solo. Re-engineered Chewie any day now. The Vaders and secondary characters have always been good. We just need a reengineered 3P0 and a completely new Obi-Wan to properly round out the New Hope crew.
I didn’t have the original Han, so this has been on my list regardless and was an obvious buy. He only has single jointed elbows and knees, but Hasbro has been gradually improving the engineering and caring about joint range in the Black Series this year, so both go past 90 and are surprisingly nice. Next to no extras - just his pistol - but I can only think of one other New Hope Han accessory that makes any sense. A Stormtrooper belt. Which Luke also should have come with.
See, this pic is basically an emulation of a shot from the movie rather than a recreation. The post-compactor argument. It’s not a re-creation because honestly I wanted a nice clean background and also I’m getting less and less interested in just trying to replace the foreground characters from a scene and replacing them with the figures. I still like doing it, but I’d rather either make my own backgrounds like my What’s Up Danger pics or create the scene from a different angle like here.
In my research, I learned something interesting, though. At no point in A New Hope to Luke, Han, and Leia appear together in these outfits. From the time they rescue Leia, they’re either in Stormtrooper armor or still wearing the belts. Han takes the belt off on the way to Yavin but Luke doesn’t. Then when they get to Yavin Luke goes from poncho to X-Wing Pilot to Ceremony.
Which is why these figures shoulda come with Stormtrooper belts.
