October Pile O Loot And The Start Of Something: The Donner Party

And you thought the Blazing Saddles cowboys were farting a lot?So, yeah, I guess I’m an Operation Monster Force guy now?

I wasn’t interested much in the first “season”. Another in the Mythic Legions style of “Indie toy company uses a bunch of standardized parts to create a bunch of variations using paint and mix and match parts” lines, Season 1 was mostly Dark Military Guys with a dash of Dudes In Suits and I generally like my shit a little wilder and more colorful.

So I didn’t pay a ton of attention to Season (Wave) 2 until the reviews started rolling in and two of the figures caught my eye, and one of them was Donner Party, the Cowboy Frankenstein. Like Mythic Legions, I am not going to get into the lore. There are good guys and there are bad guys and I’m pretty sure Dracula is a good guy and the bad guys are mystical Naziss and that’s as far as I’m going except I’m probably going to remember their for real names because they’re not Letter Salad like Legions are.

These are basically like if an indie company made GI Joe Classified figures with extra sculpt and paint detail at a price point that’s a little higher (formerly a lot higher but Hasbro is closing the gap fast). They don’t have the insane level of sculpting that Legions have but they do have the Classified-style articulation  that Legions lack. The combination makes them surprisingly phootogenic and fun, especially when you toss in the excellent accessories.

Donner comes with hands, three guns, a big knife, a big knife holster, and blast effects for the guns, plus a stand that looks like a tombstone and has the Monster Force logo on it. I’ll probably never use this. Also he comes with a wired, soft goods serape/cape thingy that’s simple but effective.

So yeah I’m in on this and relate3d lines. They have a spinoff line of werewolves and a third season both up for preorder. I’ve gone ahead and preordered four of those, plus I have three of the Season 1 and 2 figs on my impulse buy list, because they are good and fun and I like them and I think I’ve completely abandoned the “don’t buy toys of characters you don’t know just because they look neat” principle I started with.

For the pic, I figure he’s named Donner Party so he’s probably a cannibal and this way I could get some use out of the leg that snapped off of my first Mythic Legions Sammy Spellguy.

We won’t talk about how not fun it was to get Franken Berry balanced on that old Resaurus Crash Bandicoot crate.
