WEIrD OBSESSION: Tiny Record Player And Recores

Let’s start with the picture ‘cause the toy’s gonna take a while.I’m not entirely happy with it. I’m going to keep trying “putting figs in a large room” until I crack it but I definitely haven’t cracked it.

Part of the problem is that if the setup is complicated (like here) and fell apart between taking the picture and using the shot, I will settle for a slightly off angle rather than re-set-up and re-shoot. And the angle that let you see both the record player AND the business with the Skeletors that’s the main punchline for “musical chairs” is a smidge too high to match the background and sometimes I think it’s OK and sometimes I don’t.

Anyway it gets the “musical chairs with Havoc Throne” idea across but doesn’t nail it so who knows I may revisit it in the future when I get some more throne(s).

On to the toy. I’m currently obsessed with mini record players and the blind-ball sets of albums that go with them. There are two of them from two different companies which I didn’t realize until after I’d gotten one of them and the other got super sold out everywhere instantly. If you want a detailed, unnecessarily obsessive comparison of the difference you can look at my Bluesky posts from the last couple of weeks but you know you don’t.

Short version is I got this one and theree’s a different one and also I got two of the record balls for the other one on the off chance I can get the other player someday and there are a lot of tiny difference is design, accessories, and song choices that fill my nerd brain that I don’t need to share.

And also Cathy made me a cabinet out of an old wooden tea box that was perfectly sized for this player and these records and I asked her to make it as 1989 stereo as possible and she did.
