It was ten bucks. The DC Multiverse New52 Static is not “my” Static as such, but it’s pretty close. I mainly know the Static Shock cartoon version. This version’s a little older but follows a lot of the design cues.
I admit I’ve been pretty down on DC Multiverse in the past year. They make a LOT of low-contrast, drab trash, a lot of weird versions of characters, and when they do make something good, the limited availability means it gets snapped up quick and I miss out.
But I’m always amenable to a borderline figure at a deep discount, and that’s where this Static landed. He comes with two effects pieces and a hexagonal version of what in the comics was I think a manhole cover for him to fly on. A lot of the slightly odd articulation common in Multiverse figures, with stiff joints and weird ankles, but otherwise a perfectly decent representation of the character for the collection.
For the pic, I’ve started to move into “trying to learn to draw my own effects” instead of trying to rely on cutouts of stock stuff. There is a stock electrical effect here, but it’s overlaid on the blue and yellow “glow” effect that I tried to make myself. It’s not great, but it’s a start, and something I’m hoping to expand on going forward. I say that knowing I already did, and it’s not done yet, but still. Trying to maintain blog kayfabe.
