This is why I didn’t get him when he came out. That thrift store where I got the Red Skull also had a Legacy Collection M’Baku from Black Panther, which I got despite his flaws because the price was right.
Don’t get me wrong. The sculpt on this guy is great. Tons of detail, really looks like the movie. But unfortunately, he’s useless from the waist down.
The Legacy Collection were reissues to earlier figures, and the earlier figures were peak MCU Hasbro. Peak MCZU Hasbro was very Star Wars Black Series in its prioritizing appearance over engineering. Make it look like the movie, no matter how many layers of thick, heavy plastic you need to do it.
So M’Baku spectacularly fails the Chair Test, a thing I sort of came up with to describe whether or not a character can sit in a chair, and therefore how versatile it is in the kind of posing I like to do. M’Baku can stand and that’s about it.
Pair this with one of M’Baku’s best scenes literally being him sitting casually in a throne, and, well… there’s your picture. All he comes with, by the way, is that stick. But the price was right.
