RELEASE THE RAINBOW PEGASUS UNICORN!As someone who exclusively collects the Cartoon Collection, this was a no-brainer that was also a some-brainer. Because it’s not labeled Cartoon Collection anywhere on it but it clearly is.
Instead, Mattel listed it as “inspired by the appearance in the cartoon” which is the literal definition of Cartoon Collection. Is this an outlier? Is this how they’ll be branding Cartoon Collection going forward? Does it even matter? I mean, not from a “was I gonna buy it” standpoint it didn’t.
And the whole thing is really nice. A little plain as is fitting for Cartoon Collection (by which I mean not a lot of intricate detail) but the horse is very well articulated, the wings and horn are removable so you can have either side of the transformation (Cartoon Collection Adora WHEN) and the paint job on the wings is fantastic. Even the She-Ra is an upgrade, with big translucent hair, a cloth cape, and tranlucent sword and shield.
For the pic, it’s kind of obvious if you’re old like me. If you’re not, it’s the ‘81 Clash of the Titans with Sgt. Slaughter’s gunny sack standing in for the head bag and Hordak standing in for Medusa. And yes, I know that technically it didn’t go down like this in the movie but in my MEMORY of the movie, Perseus did this from the air.
