IMPULSE BUY: Black Series New Luke and Leia

I had, for the most part, decided to pass on these double-dips. Then, kismet. So, when I started getting into Black Series, I did backfill, mostly on sale, the original releases of New Hope Luke and Leia. And I liked the articulation on them that the soft goods shirt and dress made possible, but also the soft goods dress and shirt were very bulky and awkward.

When they announced new ones, no soft goods, more traditional Black Series sculpted clothing, I had to decide how badly I needed them, knowing that they lost some to all of the good joints (double elbows or knees). And I decided I didn’t. Or, more accurately, I put off the decision until I forgot I was going to make it.

And then, on a stop in a local toy aisle, they were just there. One of each. Not even on the pegs. Just sitting on the shelf. Right in front of my goddamned face. Kismet. Destiny. Poor impulse control. Call it what you will, but now I have them.

And they’re good! Not perfect, but good! They look really nice. And Leia even kept her double knees under the skirt. She has single elbows and so does Luke. Luke also has single knees but I think he had those before .

They’re a little light on accessories. Leia has the long pistols and a standard Imperial rifle. Luke has macrobinoculars and a lightsaber. I don’t know what else they could have had, necessarily, but Black Series has been happy to include more before.

Leia also has two hoods, one down, one up, and a removable head to switch between them. Once the head’s been popped, the neck gets looser. Not problematically loose, but “fear for the future” loose. But honestly you only need the hood up if you’re doing the pic of her giving R2 the data disc, and while I do have both those things now, I don’t feel super-compelled to make a pic with them, so it’s hood down for the foreseeable future.

Pic uses a nice Star Wars screengrab - blaster bolt and smoke added in post to create a slightly different angle of something that we only really saw in closeup.

This also means I am officially CAUGHT UP. Everything I’ve gotten or been working on that’s anywhere close to copmletion is posted. I need to take a couple weeks off from Hobby for Other Hobby And Life Stuff anyway, then get back to a couple of longer-form projects I’ve been working on. And at some point in March I’ll get some new stuff and also probably send my Pile of Loot.
