MY MAGNA-BEAM1 WWWWWWASTED ON A RRRRROCK!Masters of the Universe. Cartoon Colleciton. You know the drill. Main characters and critical weirdos. We had the Man-E-Faces as the Critical Weirdo, and Hordak is a Main Character.
Of course, the wave they just announced after this starts messing with the formula, causing a revision in the definition of “Critical” in “Critical Weirdo”, moving the line down to where a handful of dudes who didn’t qualify before qualify now, but that’s the danger of collecting.
Anyway, Hordak. Cartoon Collection formula in full force. Basic but mostly modern articulation, simple but clean paint, a lot of overlays over similar base bodies. One accessory, his Time Stop device (shown left) with a handle on it.
My big connection to Hordak is from an audio-tape version of “The Secret Of The Sword”, which itself was a VHS movie version of the first handful of She-Ra origin episodes, with an INCREDIBLY bad 80’s song at the open and close, and it featured the Magna-Beam line above, which has stayed in my head for a long time. So that’s the scene I pulled from, although the background is from a few seconds later so you can see more of the Magna-Beam. A beam which, I shit you not is powered by the life force of Hordak’s slaves, in one of those weird Holy Shit That’s Dark offhand bits in an 80’s cartoon.
Only four figures left in the big Jan Pile of Loot!
