My Fifteen Favorite Toys of 2024: #9-#7

Gonna do that thing everyone does in the last week of the year and do a countdown of my fifteen favorite additions to the toy collection this year. This is a random mix of objective quality, love of the character, general emotional resonance, and collecting milestones. I’m also going to do my 15 favorite toy pics of the year. Three per day. Should just about take me to 2025. Let’s do 9, 8, and 7

#9: Marvel Legends Phoenix

It’s all about the effects piece. Pretty unprecedented thing for Marvel Legends to do, honestly, and it works great, especially if you throw a light behind it.  Plus, I needed a Jean for the X-Men collection, and this one can pull double duty as comic or cartoon.

#8: Masters Of The Universe Origins Cartoon Collection He-Man

OK. Technically, this is a representative pic. The figure itself is just He-Man. He’s not even my favorite in the line. But he was the first in a pretty monumental decision to start collecting a not insignificant fraction of a Masters of the Universe line. I mean, fancy TMNT figures? Not far out of my wheelhouse. These were a bit more of a stretch, and the deepest I’ve ever gone into any MOTU figures, ever.

Slightly larger figures aping the cartoon specifically, rather than the toys, with modern articulation, pop and swap limbs, and deep cut episode accessories at a twenty buck price point. The line makes the list and He-Man starts the line.

#7: Mavel Legends Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Wave 2 Pavitr Prabhankar

I think I just spelled that right from memory for the first time.

He’s the best figure in one of my favorite waves of the year. Of course he goes on the list. Hasbro nailed the look, Marvel Legends brought the articulation, and he doesn’t need many accessories so he got everything he needs. Plus I didn’t have to buy the 100 buck import to get the character.
