Once again I find myself in a penny/pound in-for situation. So, in the next couple of months, you’re gonna se a LOT of Spider-Verse fig pictures, because Marvel Legends announced a whole-ass wave of Spider-Verse figs in August, and, well, it turns out I needed… all of them.
See, when it comes to Spider-Man, I have very specific collecting rules.
Priority 1 - Spider-Verse figures.
Priority 2 - Classic comic figures.
Priority 3 - 90’s Animated Series figures when they differ from classic comic versions.
Priority 4 - All other figures, MCU and later comics mainy, based on the usual metric of how much I like them as figures and/or as characters.
So, for example, almost all of the MCU Spidey-suits are not only in Priority 4, but I passed on them because I don’t like most of the MCU Spidey suits. I like Civil War/ and Final Swing and that’s pretty much it. And the Civil War suit is a bit redundant and not that accurate.
But a Spider-Verse figure has to be pretty bad for me to skip it. And I skipped a LOT of the first movie wave for Across The Spider-Verse. They really leaned into the cartoon proportions of the characters, which I appreciate, but it messed with the engineering and the figs looked… off. So I didn’t get 2099 or Gwen (partly because I had two Gwens already) or Miles or The Spot.
BUT.
Now I have seven more Spider-Verse figures incoming, including a new Gwen, Miles, and 2099, but no new improved Spot. And the old one was like twelve bucks at BigBad. So I grabbed him.’
He’s lanky. His limbs are thin and that makes the joints in them dicey. He does not stand well. But he does look like The Spot, and that’s all I’m gonna get until Beyond comes out and Spot’s gonna look different by then anyhow. So he’s fine.
Honestly, the best thing about him is the accessory - a clear stand with two dimensional portals with Miles’ body parts sticking out of them. So here, I took my worst Miles (the very half-assed Miles/Gwen two-pack Marvel Legends put out as a fast movie tie-in grab), popped off his head and a hand, edited in a couple of the other end of the portals, and boom, Spider-Verse fight scene. The first of what are gonna be many.
Now where’s my deluxe Peni Parker from the first movie, Hasbro?
