SEPT PILE OF LOOT: Rebel Trooper / Stromtrooper 2-Pack

I had a theme, I had a problem. If there’s a theme to September’s purchases, it’s “two-packs where I want one figure more than the other”. I wanted Mark Briscoe more than Jay Briscoe. No disrespect, but how I collect and what I do with my collection favors the active singles wrestler over his late brother.

Similarly, here. I wanted the Rebel Trooper from A New Hope. I already had a Stormtrooper. But the thing is, the Black Series Stormtrooper is hands down one of the best Black Series figures ever. It’s REALLY good. And while I can (like I did here) use photo trickery for multiple Stormtroopers, I can also see a use for having two for, say, flanking a Vader. Like my original plan for this photo. Until I ran into my problem.

At some point last week, the helmet fell off when he was in the “pile of figs I need to shoot that I keep moving around the living room when it’s in the way”. And I have cats. And the helmet is gone. Not forever gone, but definitely… longer-term gone.

So I needed a way to do the picture without his helmet. And why wouldn’t he have his helmet? Maybe he was on break and unprepared. Looking at the little thingy he came with which I think might be the Death Star plans. Leaning against a doorway. Being snuck up on by Stormtroopers.

ART REQUIRES WORKING WITHIN LIMITATIONS.

So that’s what i did. Because I was trying to match odd angles I didn’t try to do it in a single shot because I know how that usually works out. The trigger finger on the Stoermtrooper makes a pretty good shush finger too. Tiptoeing poses are new and odd and I think it looks a little… off, but everythign gets better with practice.

The Trooper Figure is quite nice, although unlike the Hoth and Endor troopers he only comes with the one face. Sculpt is great, paint is great, articulation is fine, helmet is excellent except for the part where it’s both round for batting around the carpet and has a strap that can be picked up in a little mouth. I’m sure it’ll turn up.
