I like it when NEXA meets expectations.I mean, don’t get me wrong. I loooooooooove it when NECA exceeds expectations. When they do a Shredder with great articulation and accessories, or a Vincent Price with insane accessories and options? I’m happier than a pig in shit.
When NECA borks it, though, it’s super disappointing. So while I can’t say that the new Ultimate Pee Wee soars to NECA’s greatest heights, it does the job, and does so admirably.
The key here is the sculpt and paint, which just nails it. The gangly proportions, the textures, everything is spot on. The articulation is NECA Guy In A Suit Standard - he’s not gonna be Spdermanning it all over the place, but the articulation that is there is at least full-range or a little past, so posing isn’t a problem.
He’s a little light on the accessories front. He’s got three heads with three facial expressions, which is great. He’s got a complement of hands, which is fine. He has a couple of “secret word” cards which are just printed pieces of paper that say NECA and ULTIMATE on them, which is a little sad. And then there’s an I believe (don’t test me on this) to-scale Pterry figurine, which is (surprise!) articulated at the head, beak, and wing-shoulders. And I gotta admit, that’s an extra mile I wasn’t expecting, but also I probably woulda traded those joints for two or three more props.
The pic is a multi-threaded homage- Pee Wee’s Big Adventure tequila dance on a bar lit up purply-pink, Danhausen’s Tequila Dance move, and the first time he did that move in a ring-less bar match.
