Hasbro and Power Rangers parted ways last year, ending the Lightning Collection. Now Playmates has the license, and they’re doing that Playmates thing where they make new toys like old toys, rather than modern toys of old characters.
My Lightning Collection rule, which I held to, was everything pre-Turbo and everything Tommy. And, while there are a ton of figures they could have made and didn’t (Bulk and Skull, Civilian Rangers, Baboo, Squatt, more mosters…) before the line ended, I got everything that fell into those categrories with two exceptions.
I never got Remastered Green, because I got hosed out of it due to an incredible inability to meet preorders at the end of the line. And I never got Turbo Red, because I thought, perhaps, having made one, they’d make one with a Tommy head instead of a T.J. head. No disrespect to T.J., and I’m glad they included a new head with the figure, but Tommy Turbo Red is what I’d be collecting.
But, with the line gone, I checked to see if I could get a Turbo Red cheap on eBay, and I could, so I did, and now I’m done, because Remastered Green goes for $150 secondhand and that’s never going to happen.
It’s a very nice figure except for the hip joints, which are… weird. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t messed with a Lightning Collection ranger body in a while, or if Turbo Red was generally borked, or if this specific toy was borked, but the hips do not want to move smoothly or well. You can argue with them and manage, but something ain’t right.
