FUN WITH LIGHT PUCK: Darth Maul / Put Em On The Glass

OK, technically, put ‘em on the hard clear plastic. So I spotted a Holocomm Collection Darth Maul for ten bucks and bought it mainly for the light puck.

The Hologram Collection is, as you can see, a line of Black Series figures cast in classic Hasbro Translucent Blue Plastic, sold with a battery powered LED puck  that casts a flickering light up through the figure, in a semi-reasonable attempt to make it look like a Shitty Star Wars Hologram (TM).

The figure is… it’s a Black Series Darth Maul. I think it’s an old body. It’s fine. Nice of them to put a bit of red in the lightsaber blades to break things up.

The puck is fun. Could I have simulated this effect in other ways with other gear? Absolutely. But it’s a good ffigure size, so I pulled out Crystar, Hydro Man, Invisible Woman, and the Ark of the Covenant to see how well it played in a dark photo box. The phone picks up the light way more than I presume normal eyes do so the effect is magnified but hey, I’ll be using it with a phone anyway, so.

I’m probably happiest with the Ark, which I removed the bottom from for maximum light coverage.

That is a lie. It’s had the bottom off it in the bin pretty much since I got it for some reason. The bottom is in the Indians Jones Adventure Series accessories bag for reasons I don’t remember, but it made this very convenient.

Obs I messed with scale to highlight th new toy here but you get the idea.
