I definitely overthink collecting. So, a couple of years ago, Hasbro put out a five-pack of Symbiote Suit Miles Morales and four deep-cut Spidey villains. Razorback, Silvermane, Molten Man, and Human Fly. And under no circumstances was I gonna drop $120 on it.
About six months ago, it hit Kids Warehouse, one of my sneaky side places I check for Hasbro stuff Hasbro can’t get rid of. And there, it was fifty five bucks, and once a month or so, I’d look at it, and I’d be tempted, because it’s like 11 bucks a figure. But a black-suit Miles is way down the “need it in the collection” list, so it’s more like 14 a fig for the four I care about… That dithering continued until March.
So what changed? Vincent Price Pork Belly, and Road Pig. Because it turns out I love connections and crossovers. RoadPig is a big dude withi a pig mask. Razorback is a big dude with a pig mask. Pork Belly is a warthog. Vincent Price was in a movie about t human fly. Suddenly there are connections, connections generate ideas, ideas generate desire. Plus my Spidey subcollection is my biggest and most important to me these days.
So here’s Human Fly, He’ fine! All these figures are fine! They’re a lot of reuse and repainting and new heads, and they’re mostly older bodies even when you account for them being from two years ago, but he’s a guy with a sort of fly costume and sort of fly head and definitely fly wings!
The pic speaks for itself, but I was happy that my pose for Human Fly was able to lock into the background pretty easily.
