MORE MOTU: Trap-Jaw and Triklops

Let’s have a chat about how collecting works, at least for me.I’ve been collecting Masters of the Universe Cartoon Collection from the jump, but not as a completionist. As I’ve mentioned before, the rule is Main Characters and Critical Weirdos. And it’s served me well. I don’t need a goddamned Mantenna.

But the most recent preorder wave threw me for a loop, because it contained Buzz Off. A bee guy. And I couldn’t decide if he was a Critical Weirdo or not. It took me days to decide.

Eventually, I decided he was, in fact, a Critical Weirdo. But in defining him a Critical Weirdo, it changed how I defined Critical. It moved the line. And when the line was done moving, four figures were suddenly on the Critical side of the Weirdo line. One of them is not currently available at list price, but three were. And here are two of them.

Tri-Klops has a band around his eyes you can spin to give him one of three front-facing eyes. Trap-Jaw has a moving jaw and a robot arm you can plug a hook or a gun into. Triklops also comes with a grey thingy from an episode, as is the way with MOTU-O-CC. Other than that they’re pretty much the same as the rest, but with two characters I didn’t think I needed until I did.

For the pic, I pulled out my Super Action Stuff “spinning stars” headbands, because what better fate for two doofy lackeys of evil than a noggin-knocker from He-Man.

I do need to find a better way to shoot the Cartoon Collection figures and edit them so that they look better against lifted ‘toon backgrounds. I think I just need more light from as many directions as possible to keep the colors as flat as I can and then tweak that a little flatter in post. The regular light’s not cutting it.
