Goddammit, Legions! The story I told a couiple of days ago about the space guy and needing gift ideas and sale at BBTS and the whole thing? Also applies to this dude, except this dude is an armored skellington with a shit-ton of gear.
Much like regular skellingtons, of which prior to this I had three, an armored skellington is generally useful in a variety of scenarios. Or, at least, that’s what I tell myself to justify this acquisition. And another purchase. I don’t know what I’m gonna do to rationalize [NAME REDACTED] when [PRONOUN REDACTED] arrives. At least with [NAME REDACTED] I’ll get to claim I had a gift card.
It’s interesting to see where Mythic Legions falls in my Fancy Figure pantheon. Articulation-wise, they’re better than an average Super7 but not by a hell of a lot. Obviously, from a licensing standpoint, there is none in play here. Sculpt an paint wise, these start where the best NECA stop. It’s a level of detail that’s not immediately apparent from a picture, but when you have one in hand, it’s really striking. It feels like they’re taking no shortcuts even when shortcuts would be totally understandable.
Again, I think the shortcut they’re taking is reuse of stuff - armor pieces, weapons, limbs, etc, but unless you’re getting a ton of these, you won’t notice that. And if you are getting a ton of these, you’ve clearly decided that shortcut is fine. I would, if I had infinite money and space!
This dude doesn’t come with any extra hands, but does come with everything you can see here plus some stuff behind his back. Shoulder armor (removable), a shoulder strap, a quiver that clips to the shoulder strap, a bow with a very stretchy string, a loose arrow for the bow, and that nice polearm. The jaw is articulated and so is the visor, both nice touches. Helmet doesn’t come off, but given the design philosophy of Four Horsemen, I figure they figure you’ve got a bunch of same-color skeleton heads from other figures kicking around.
So, yeah! He’s fun little guy! Does Mythic Legions largely violate some to all of the rules I set for myself when I first started getting hard into 1:12 figures? Yes they do. Do I care? Three months into 2025? HA HA HA HA HA. Rules are for suckers.
