Oh, The Metahumanity! (June 26-30)

I need to get back to Powers, but hey, Im done with Daredevil Season 2 with plenty of time to spare before Luke Cage!

Preacher: "South Will Rise Again" (10% Stupid)

This episode confirms that we're doing "pride goeth before the fall" this season, with Jesse getting his powers, using/abusing them for what he thinks is good or good for his ego, and things gradually going horribly wrong. Nothing wrong with that as a story, and it's all handled quite well. We have a lot more Eugene/Arseface this ep, with hints abput his backstory and a further defining of his relationship with his father, which is really good stuff. And the Donny story continues, and is probably one of the most compelling new things about the series.

There is another big shift in this episode, though. Basically, there's the plot changes I'm fine with because they're clearly part of the adaptation and the budget situation, and then there's the changes where I have to have faith in the people making the show, because I'm not sure if they'll work out in the long run. Tulip and Cassidy in this ep is very much one of those latter changes. It's either a drastic departure, or an attempt to shift a very late story beat to very early, and either way I wonder if they're going to be able to pull it off.

Daredevil: "A Cold Day In Hell's Kitchen" (30% Stupid)

See, right here is the problem. There's a lot of individual things in this episode that I liked. Daredevil gets a new weapon! And uses it to fight a shit-ton of ninjas! And Stick is there! And Foggy is going to work for the Jessica Jones law firm! And Elektra diesd! And Punisher got his skull!

Unfortunately, all those things happened in an episode that wasn't very good and didn't make a whole lot of sense. Which is the story of Daredevil Season 2 as a whole. A lot of things happened, and many of them were cool, but when taken as a whole, they make very little sense.

The defining thing in this episode is Nobu's Box. We spent a lot of time with Nobu's Box. He filled it with Zombie Hospital Paitent blood. He guarded it carefully. And in the end, what was it? Some kind of empty vessel to put a dead Elektra in, even though Nobu had the box before Elektra was dead or Nobu even knew she was the Black Sky. The w hole season spent a bunch of time on stuff that ended up being nothing or less than nothing.

Also, I don't know what this show thinks jounalism is, but whatever Karen was doing wasn't jounralism. It was a shitty LiveJournal.

Presumably there will be a Season 3. Let's hope it's better. Because the show gets a lot of stuff right even when it's slacking on plotting and characterization.
