Now, Mythic Legions (and the sci-fi version, Cosmic Legions) is one of the Lines I Dare Not Fuck With. They generally run a little pricier, and they are their own universe and mythology not based on an existing IP. Which I respect, but I’m mostly in this toy thing for the representations of beloved pop culture, and try VERY HARD not to fall into the “I’m gonna get that toy just because it looks neat” trap. And I’m mostly successful.
So this display was amazing, and full of cool stuff, but my eyes landed on a horse. Just a horse. Just a brown horse. This brown horse.
And a thing happens that happens to me sometimes. I look at a toy and it just goes stright to the limbic system or lizard brain or whatever. It clicks with my soul. Like the NECA Vincent Price. Not necessarily something I’d have sought out, not a fandom I partake in, but the toy itself just screams at my brain that I need it.
But the brown horse came out in 2020 and they don’t sell it anymore. But they sell a gray one!
So, I fell in love with the horse in November 2024. But the horse, named Boreus, was seventy five goddamned dollars. I understood that price. I have plenty of ways to use a horse. But I already HAD a horse (the McFarlane Dark Knight Returns Build-A-Horse) and couldnt justify a second horse at that price.
Flash to January and Four Horsemen putting on another “in-stock sale”, where they sell stuff direct from their warehouse. And Boreus was there for $55. And there was no getting around that. For one thing, the McFarlane horse is large because DC Multiverse is LARGE. So smaller figures struggle on it. Boreus is smaller and stocky. Also I wanted it.
Took a while to ship becuase apparently it’s just a handful of guys in a room doing everything but it came and it’s every bit as gorgeous as it seemed. I still love the brown more becuase it’s just SO FUCKING HORSE but the sculpt and the paint and the details are all there on this one too. All the articulation you can get on a horse, two manes, the trappings, etc.
And when I think horse, I think “Hangman” Adam Page, great wrestler and all around great guy, who’s used a horse a couple of times. Enough that I made a second pic from one of his pre-entrance videos:
Anyway this’ll be my primary horse for when I need a horse going forward. And I will not buy another horse. Nope. Three horses is too many horses.
