I swear I’m pretty much done with these.I loved my Robot Spirits Gundam, but now two and a half series into Gundam-watching, there are very few other models I’d want. Mostly because Gundams come in two styles mostly, and they look enough alike that I don’t need to be dropping $50 on a handful of color and mild shape variations. Do I like the Zeta Gundam? Yes, I do. Do I like the Hizack? I do. Are either of them that different from existing models that I need them? Not now that I have Char’s Zaku, AKA The Bad Gundam From Gundam.
The Zaku II is the prototypical Other Style of Gundam. Gundam is angualr, Zaku is bulbous, all there rest are variations on or mixes of those themes. And it’s red. And has some extra details. And, from a Mobile Suit Gundam 1978, it is the antagonist to Gundam The Gundam From Gundam’s protagonist.
It is as glorious as GTGFG, if not more so, because it’s less fiddly. It’s not NOT fiddly, mind, but it’s less fiddly. The fiddliest bit is the head spine, which is removable for reasons that exist but aren’t great.
See, Char’s Zaku is basically a redeco of the green Standard Zaku, and some Zakus have the command fin on the head and some don’t, so it’s removable. Char’s Zaku always has the command fin, but it’s still removable because they made the parts already. And it’s… very removable. Regular manipulation of the figure will pop it out. It’s also hard plastic and very small, so if it were permanently installed and it broke, you’d be hosed. So they give you two of them, but because it pops out, it’s also very easy to lose, which I know because I lost one. Right at the end of my photos.
The top of the head is also removable so you can reposition the eye, and it’s a bit tricky getting it back on. Other than that, though, everything works like it should.
As always, tons of accessories. Above you can see the jet effects, and the energy axe. There’s also more hands, a “storage version” of the energy axe, and Other Stuff. So, more pictures and the accessories they highlight:
This is the one of two pics I have of the machine gun intact. Unfortunately, the stock broke off the second time I messed with it. I think it got bent (you can see it in the pic here) at some point, weakening it. At some point I need to try and glue it back together, by which I mean have Cathy glue it back together. But that’s a shame and it’s not likely to be very strong once it’s glued. Gun is fun though.
Bazooka and blast effect. No more kludging together the one from Super Action Stuff, at least for Gundams. This also works with the GTGFG’s bazooka, one of the things I love about these figs is the universal effects pieces.
LITTLE PLASTIC BOOM. I love this little explosion so much. It looks like the anime. It attaches to any effect port. It’s unexpected and cool.
Finally, another shot of the rifle with the stock and the jest (this time in the boots) and the machine gun blast effect, which is very nice.
So, yeah. For right now, I’ve gotten all I need out of this line. There’s one model (Char’s Hyaku-Shiki from Zeta GUndam) that they haven’t made in a very long time.A.N.I.M.E. that I would need if they did, and I can’t promise I won’t keep watching Gundam shows and find a new model that I love and need. I’d also love a sled but those only seem to come in expensive accessory packs for shows I haven't watched. But other than that, I’m good.
