Weekly Wrasslin’ Wroundup! (Jun 25-27)

If you can ignore the last two months this is pretty cool.
We’re moving into  that wonderful time between PPV’s when they have to actually do a bunch of stuff and move stories forward to get ready for Extreme Rules. So gear up for many EVENTS OF SIGNIFICANCE!

BAYLEY TURNS... HEEL?

She beat the ever-lovin’ shit out of Sasha Banks after Kurt Angle made them tag together again. Which may mean a heel turn, but not if you go by the crowd reaction, who cheered her the whole way. Kurt Angle is making her get “counseling” next week, which is some sexist bullshit.

SHINSUKE NAKAMURA GOT BIT BY A POLICE DOG

Not on the show, in real life. So he’s out for a bit. Because why should anything be normal?

TEAM HELL NO REUNITES

Kane as the slightly goofy, face, “straight man” to a ridiculously earnest partner is my favorite Kane (see: Hurri-Kane), and while I do hope the team will be renamed Team Hell Yes next week for thematic consistency, this is a perfectly acceptable way to kill a month or so before we presumably get Bryan-Miz at Summerslam. It’d also not be the worst way to get the belts off the Bludgeon Brothers and ontio a proper tag team via Hell No/Yes, but I’m not getting my hopes up there.

WE HAVE NEW BRITISH NXT TAG CHAMPS BUT NOT A NEW UK CHAMP

WWE has finally pulled the trigger on its British wrestling “promotion”, and it won’t be a weekly thing like 205 or NXT. Now it’s an extension of the NXT brand, “NXT UK”, will have its own separate women’s and tag divisions, and sounds like it’ll tape a few hours worth every couple of months. Pete Dunne retained his title against Very Mean Liverpool Man With A Shoulder Submission (look, the tournament was full of interchangeable white guys), because Pete Dunne is awesome and super over and he won’t be losing the title anytime soon to Noam Dar, who won a fatal four way to become #1 Contender. No word on whether he’ll do double duty on 205 and NXT UK or if he’s shifted over. Anyway, Moustache Mountain defeated Undisputed Era in a fantastic two on two match that followed an awesome three on three match the night before to take the NXT titles for what will probably be a fairly short reign. On NXT, they teamed with Ricochet so that Undisputed could get a shenanigans-based win back, which I hope means they’re setting up Ricochet-Cole for the North American title soon.

ASUKA-CARMELLA II AT EXTREME RULES, ASUKA-ELLSWORTH NExT WEEK

I guarantee we won’t get the first proper intergender match and complete Ellsworth beatdown we all want and need. He’ll probably run away from her for a while until Carmella interferes. But man, it sure would be nice, wouldn’t it?

DOLPH ZIGGLER IS STILL THE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION

He retains by DQ hafter a long, great rematch with ‘seth Rolins. This has to be leadinb to some kind of gimmick match at Extreme Rules, right?

LIO RUSH DEBUTS ON 205 LIVE

He’s amazing in the ring and has a generic Fancy Rich Guy character. So, perfect for 205 Live!

IT’S REIGNS-LASHLEY AT EXTREME RULES

So that’s ten minutes I can fast forward through.

BONUS KUDOS

Nothing really happened this week that was great but not covered above, but there really was some great wrestling going on in both the UK Night 2 show and NXT.
