Oh, The Metahumanity! (Oh, The Catchupanity!)

BOBA FITZ!
I’ve been behind on discussing the superhero shows, so with Flash and Arrow premiering this week, it’s a good time to get caught up on Agents of SHIELD and Punisher. I still need to watch this week’s AoS, so this covers the last three or four where stuff blew up real good.

I know I’m like four episodes behind on Agents of SHIELD, but basically it turned into the Fitz Is Awesome show with a bunch of episodes about how Fitz Is Awesome, and you don’t need to know much more than that. This season has been firing on all cylinders, and has been a joy to watch. It’s like everything good about last season with none of the weak stuff.

Similarly, The Punisher picked up the pace, pulling out of the Mushy Middle by finally tying Angry Young Vet into the main plot, leading to the world discovering that Frank Castle is alive and also thinking he was the bomber. This culminated in a fantastic episode that went all Rashomon, but not in an annoying way, as an attempt on Senator Liberal Strawman’s life led to Frank barely escaping, Karen being held hostage a bunch, and Madani finally realizing Billy is eeeeeeevil.Basically, all the pieces are in place to finish telling the story they started in the first four epiodes before getting the usual six expisode middle distraction.

The Flash was fine I guess. The trial was dumb and we’re only now starting to see an inkling of how they’re going to out-think the Thinker, presumably realizing Barry’s Speed Force insane ramblings are predictions of the future. The Nuclear Man subplot was bog-standard stuff, and the absence of Wally is starting to get painful.

Arrow was also fine, I guess? I’m even less sold on the Legion of Dull after their first outing together, and the episode was a lot of dudes in dark outfits punching dudes in dark outfits in dark rooms. None of the team’s interpersonal dynamics really stand up to close examination right now, though. Lots of stuff that’s not bad per se but not compelling either.
