THIRTY SEVEN DOLLS #28: Amazing Yamaguchi Arkham Knight Batman (Vacation Haul)

I don’t understand toy people sometimes. So I was researching some of the fiddly shit about this figure on YouTube, as is traditional, and apparently a lot of people didn’t like this? I don’t get it. I mean, I am new to Revoltech/Amazing Yamaguchi, but I think he’s fuckin’ cool, if, like most imports, fiddly.

I’ve always wanted to try a R/A-Y figure. Their articulation schemes are rococo and wild and speak to me. But in the US they are, for the most part, prohibitively expensive. In Japan, they’re cheaper by a significant amount, making them just Special Occasion expensive. Some of them were still north of a hundred bucks there, which is madness, but Batman was in that mid-to-upper two digits range which is Fuck It When Am I Gonna Be In Japan Again money.

Plus I do have a soft spot in my heart for the Arkham game suits. A softer spot than I do for the games, which I like in theory but hate the color palette and constant rain and fog effects. Which, by the way, you can’t turn off in Photo Mode so I had to try to add more rain over the figures. Ain’t mad at how it turned out.

The star of the figure is the cape, all leathery plastic and wires on every spine. It’s the most dynamic cape I own and posing it is a dream. The joints are indeed weird. I cannot figure out how they get the range of motion they do on their single elbows and knees - deeper than a lot of doubles. The left leg does like to pop off at the knee but it pops back in easily and securely and holds poses just fine. The hands, like all important hands, are fussy as shit, but there are a lot of them, including a zip-line hand (above) to go with the zipline.

The accessories are a bit drab - appropriately for the license. Two batarangs, a handheld analyzer thingy in closed or open positions, the zipline, some nice plastic printed “cards” that pop onto the analyzer with a little piece of clear plastic I hope I haven’t lost to be the analyzer’s HUD, and a stand that sucks. Lucky for me I bought Mezco stands.

Anyway, he’s fun to play with and pose. I might have been mad at it too at US list price but for what I paid it’s an exciting entry into the world of Revoltech.
