CRAFTING! So, remember how I said Maximumn Spider-Man came with two floppy web-lines? Well, this is one of my solutions.
This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and was spurred on by the purchase of the Maximu, who has gripping hands to hold web-lines. I’ve seen various verions of this around the internet for a while, so none of this is my idea.
It stars with white steel bendy wire. I had a hell of a time finding the various products either mentioned or not mentioned in the various internet discussions of this. What I ended up with is 26 gauge floral wire, in white, PAINTED. Most floral wire is paper-wrapped, which even I realize ain’t gonna cut it. Anyway it comes in quantities of More Than You WIll Ever Need.
So I took this, strung out around 8 inches of it, then, on Cathy’s suggestion, measured out another eight inches and folded it over before twisting it all the way down. Then I did this again. Then I took the two double twists, hooked them togehther, and twisted those. Then I put it in Spidey’s hand and it wasn’t thick enough.
So I did another two-strand twist and twisted it with the four-strand and it still wasn’t thick enough, so I did it one more time to get an eigh-strand twist. This does the trick, although it can be too heavy for some of Spidey’s looser joints in a one-handed grab.
But it ds beautifully and it doees that thing I love and that it does here where the end sort of tendril-wrapts out of the second hand grip.
I -also- used this wire as a tight wrap around the floppy plastic web-lines to make them bendy, which works mostly but it doesn’t necessarily stay tight to the plastic all the time so it needs to be fussed with. But it’s still an improvement over the unposable floppy line and works OK with the slightly translucent white plastic.
I do want to make another one in the near future to try out two-line swinging picutres, plus I realized I can use Spider-Man 2 Photo Mode to line up ideal backgrounds in 3-D, so maybe I’ll just do a bunch of Spidey shit for no good reason this year.
