THE ARCADE GROWS: Star Wars, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

Nostalgia is weird. Sometimes you see a thing and a flood of… not memories as such, but pure, unbridled RECOGNITION floods your soul. That’s how I felt, when I idly revisited GalacticBasic’s Etsy site where I’d picked up that Mortal Kombat machine last year and I saw this. I absolutely had to have it.

I spent a LOT of hours in this cockpit in the 80’s, and if there are any inaccuracies, I couldn’t tell you what they were. That shape, those graphics… you can even tell from the bit of an actual machine in my stock background arcade image how close it is. And when I got it, the inside was even more detailed than the Etsy pics showed, with tons of internal cockpit detail and hits of color I wasn’t expecting.

Plus, I have me in an X-Wing pilot suit, which I’d initially regretted when I got a Selfie Series picture, but is perfect to display with this, so it all works out in the end. Had it for a few weeks now and it still gives me a little nostalgia hit every time I see it.

And since I was ordering stuff anyway, I figure I might as well pick up another machine, and what better than another classic fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2?

The stand-up machines use the same blank with different stickers for everything, which is one reason I’ve stuck to fighting games - they best match the default controllers on them. They’re a smidge on the small size for your bigger Marvel Legends, your Jada Toys, and especially wrestlers, but they’re not too far off, and they’re real games, as opposed to the fake games of the taller and also wider Game On cabinets.
