PREDICTIONS: Backlash 2018

Only two of these people are wrestling each other.
Right. The last couple of weeks have been boring as fuuuuuck. Some decent matches, but nothing really in the way of character development or plot moves. We’re still in the post-Mania storylines as we head for Backlash and the end of single-brand PPV events.

Ruby Riott vs. Bayley (Pre-Show)

The Sasha-Bayley story is in this weird “will they won’t they” stage even though they did, repeatedly, fight each other and turn on each other. I don’t actually know why she’s wrestling Riott but I assume it has something to do with the standard “heels fight faces” tag matches that have been the norm in the women’s division all year. I’ll give it to Riott.

Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

Owens and Zayn exist to lose matches like this, Strowman and Lashley exist to win them. The only way Owens and Zayn win is if they’re setting up Lashley vs. Strowman, and I doubt they’re doing that anytime soon. Lashley and Strowman win.

Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass

At some point they need to set Bryan up for a longer feud where he loses matches, but now is not the time. Bryan wins, possibly altercates with Miz to set up their future match.

Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns

I want Joe to win this so bad, but after losing two high profile matches to Brock Lesnar, Reigns will be getting a win back here and Joe’s the lamb to the slaughter.

Charlotte Flair vs. Carmella (SD Women’s)

This has short-term written all over it, which means, using WWE logic, that they’re going to stretch this shit out to Money In The Bank. The question is, will they keep Carmella out of MiTB 3 entirely or have her lose here so she can lose the MiTB match? I’m torn, but I’m going to go with Carmella retaining.

Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax (Raw Women’s)

This is definitely Jax’s second win to cement herself as champ.

Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy (US Champ)

Never pick Randy Orton. Jeff Hardy wins.

The Miz vs. Seth Rollins (IC Title)

Since there’s no chance of the US Title going to Raw, there’s no chance of the IC title leaving Raw. Rollins retains.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. AJ Styles (No DQ< SD Title)

As much as I’d love for Shinsuke to win this, and carry the title until Summerslam, the no-DQ stipulation seems tailor-made for AJ’s legal nutshot revenge on Nakamura. Styles retains.
