If you know why I had Dhalsim fighting Kingo, we could probably be friends.Part of the… July (holy shit, the last two weeks have put me behind again, stupid power and internet outages and other busy shit) Pile of Loot were the latest Ultra Street Fighter II figures from Jada Toys. Two more great figures in what, right now, is my absolute favorite toy line.
And again, I’m not a huge Street Fighter guy. I have a strong gamer-nerd cultural awareness of this crew, but whenever I need an iconic pose or moment, I need to google that shit. But the character designs are iconic and the figures are the absolute best at this price point and would still be the best at the two price points above it at least.
The thing about a Jada toy is this. Imagine a character. Imagine an action figure. Now make a list of “man it would be so cool if that character had or could do…” things. Any given Jada toy is gonna have, at a minimum, the top three things on your list plus at least one thing that wasn’t on your list but, in retrospect, you realize should have been.
I mean, fucking Dhalsim here. He comes with two regular arms and legs, which is perfectly understandable, and then he ALSO comes with long bendy arms and legs to swap out to do his various stretchy yoga attacks. And extra hands for the regular arms. And an extra head. And a stand you can use to hold the stretchy leg up for stretchy kicks. The legs didn’t even have to be bendy BUT THEY ARE.
And all this is extra on a figure that, without it, would be a fantastic $25-30 figure, with an incredible range of motion, great sculpt and paint, and separate (metal?) earrings and bracelets and skull necklace. I don’t know how they do it but I hope they never stop.
See also M. Bison. Wired cloth cape. Two heads. Extra hands. Extra shoulder pads so you can use him capeless. Purple punch effect. Big beefy boy, but with an unparallelled range of motion and useful articulation for a figure this size. Sculpt and paint completely on point. Zero disappointment. Twenty five bucks.
Photo note - what you’re seeing here is the result of my Street Fighter Photo System, an elaborate Affinity Photo 2 doc that features a bunch of layers for differeent backgrounds, the UI, adjustable health meters, editable character names, and the classic Street Fighter oval shadows. So I can make any Street Fight I want to with minimum effort.
Next up in Jada’s line are Cammy, Guile, and DeeJay, only one of which meets my weirdly specific collection criterium for this line (which you know if you know why Dhalsim is fighting Kingo) but honestly at this point I’m probably in for the entire line except Fei Long, who I might get on clearance if I see him cheap just for completist reasons even though he’s the boring one. Love love love these toys.
