Some more fun with Masters of the Universe Cartoon Collection, as the Pile of Loot with my Evil-Lyn pre-order arrived the same day as the Mattel Creations SDCC Two-Bad.You pretty much know the deal, but a quick recap - Cartoon Collection figures are like Origins figures - original designs with modern articulation - but the original designs are from the Filmation cartoon, not the toys like with Origins. They’re also a SLIGHTLY larger scale and often come with episode-specific accessories.
So Evil-Lyn looks like Evil-Lyn and comes with a bonus staff (not in this pic). And she’s great! She’s Evil-Lyn! But unless these figures start getting bad or coming with more notable accessories, there’s not a lot to say about them. They are what they are and I wouldn’t have it any other way, but they’re also VERY consistent.
Two-Bad’s a bit odd, because the version that this toy represents didn’t technically appear in the Filmation cartoon. I mean, Two-Bad did, and shen you have the Two-Bad figure assembled he looks just like Two-Bad from the cartoon. But the idea that Two-Bad was made up of two other bounty hunters, Tuvar and Badorah, didn’t enter the canon until 2002. But in this set, you get Tuvar, you get Badorah, you get that kick-ass (lenticular) painting, and you get Two-Bad’s torso. Pop one leg, one arm, and one head off each figure, plug them into the Two-Bad torso, and boom, Two-Bad. So that’s neat. Perhaps a SMIDGE overpriced due to it being a Mattel Creations exclusive with very fancy packaging I probably won’t keep, but a very fun set.
Speaking of SDCC, Mattel announced She-Ra, Hordak, Catra, Ram Man, and Man E Faces, so I guess this collection’s gonna be growing faster than I anticipated.
