THE TOYS OF SPRING: Space Shit

Continuing with the April acquisitions, we have two pre-orders and a Target shelf snag.

Until recently, I didn’t have a Groot figure. By the time I started getting heavy into 6” scale stuff, the original Guardians 1 Groot was long gone, and also it was from back when Marvel Legends figures weren’t quite what they are now. I passed on Teen Groot from the Love and Thunder line, so I went ahead and pre-ordered the Deluxe Guardians 3 Groot long before seeing the third movie (still haven’t, hope to in the next couple of weeks).

One of my favorite things about this figure is that, even though it only has single jointed elbows and knees, it’s got more range of motion than any other figure of its bulk. He’s way more flexible than your Hulks, Juggernauts, or Rhinos. The engineering is done so he doesn’t get in his own way and he’s not quite as bulky as some other chonkers. Plus he comes with the giant wings. Very good figure.

And when they announced a Black Series re-release of the second best Stormtrooper variant of all time the ROTJ Biker Scot, you know that went on the pre-order list. I especially like Black Series Stormtroopers because they give them the kinds of extra articulation the people figures are almost always lacking. So great poseability. Teeny, tiny gun.

The first best is of course the Snowtrooper, but you knew that already. I don’t have one of those because, again, before my big 6” push. So it not only runs $30-$50, but it’s also from a time when Black Series figs were less good. And I haven’t done the research to see if this was an exception.

And, in the intersection of Chonky Figures and Black Series ROTJ Re-Releases, I managed to stumble across a single Gammorean Guard in Target after missing out on the pre-order window because nobody ever announced it. He’s got soft fur and axes and is overall a solid example of a Black Series deluxe size figure. Glad I spotted him. I almost bought the original release on clearance in England, but the clearance price there was more than the shelf price of the re-release here and I didn’t have to get him in a suitcase, so small victory.
