MOAR IMPULSE: Grandpa Munster!
Hey it’s the guy from the show with that Fallout Boy song!
So, NECA impulse buys are always a crapshoot. A mid NECA fig is always more disappointing than a mid Hasbro fig because the average Hasbro fig at least has the kind of articulation you can do stuff with. When you know you’re getting NECA joints, you’re betting on a reasonable versioon thereof and hoping the fit and accessories take it over the top.
Grampa Munster is… fine! He’s not a disappointment like a Robocop or a standout like a Vincent Price. Out of the package I immediately thought of three things I’d have liked to see - a wired cape, a little table/rack for his science gear, and a deeper elbow joints because, as you can see, he can’t put the shovel on his shoulder like I would have wanted.
Accesssory-wise he’s a smidge light. He has the cape, which is double-sided red and black, but a wire would have gone a long way. I know it wasn’t very dynamic on the show but still. He has three science flask things that are very nice and one of them has a little stand because it’s a sphere with a neck, but then it’s just hands and heads. The heads are laughing, grimace, and close-mouth, and they’re all nice and also it’ll be laughing head forever.
For the pic… look, I know Meat Man has gotten a lot of play lately but he just slots so nicely into different ideas, like “carrying a corpse down the stairs for weird mad science stuff”.
Like Meat Man, Grandpa Munster is a fig in color that I needed to make B&W to fit the background from the show.

VACATION FIG PHOTO CATCHUP: Part 5
Da6 26 was “Facebuster”, and a stinkface will bust your face. Debated who’d be funniest. Even asked online and got no suggestions. So I went with Daredevil because the last thing you want in this situation is enhanced senses.
“Giant Swing”
Literal interpretation! Anyway, I used one (technically two) of my Waikiki Beach pictures for this and when I posed it on Bluesky some bullshit coffee shop doing searches on words saw “waikiki” in the alt text and dropped into the replies. Fuckin’ internet.
VACATION FIG PHOTO CATCHUP: Part 4
“Head Submission”
This is the first one I shot after I got back from vacation. As you can see, I was not putting a ton of effort into coming up with unique interesting concepts. I had a giant head. I used a giant head.
“Neckbreaker”
This prompt gave me the most trouble, because I was gonna uese TwoBad for it because he has two necks, but then I used him for Superkick so that was out. The choices for this were almost exclusively based on “needing to dig in this bin anyway” but I’m a bit surprised at how nice it turned out.
“DDT”
This I knew from the start was gonna be the idea, and I could get away with it because I’d already built out the background for my Human Fly gotchapic back in the day, so it was just a bit of posing and adjustment and green fog.
“Bulldog”
Black Taurus is a bull. Cosmo is a dog. Get it?
This is one where the virtual ring really failed me, or I failed it, but this was still early enough last week that I wan’t rife with energy or effort.
VACATION FIG PHOTO CATCHUP: Part 3
“Chokeslam”
Outfitting Brody King in his CMLL Abolish Ice gear was fun. I used the Eddie Guerrero tank top, the dog collar chain from the Briscoes 2-pack (balled up and tucked under the back of the shirt) and then digitally replaced the shirt front.
“Leg Submission”
I think easily this is my favorite from the entire month. Especially when I pulled up the reference shot from The Graduate and saw Hoffman standing there in a VERY Orange Cassidy pose.
“Piledriver”
I realized, in retrospect, that I could have added a whole other layer of Tombstone giving a Tombstone to a flat-headed guy by getting out a Monster Force stand which is shaped like… a tombstone! Ah well. Missed opportunity.
“Stunner”
The effects piece is from one of the new Super Action Stuff sets, the sci-fi accessories one. The Austin is a janky old 90’s fig but I’ve been hesitant to replace him on account of, you know. All his wife beating.
VACATION FIG PHOTO CATCHUP: Part 2
“Airplane Spin”
So, the guy who created the prompt list also used Starscream for his Day 15, but he had Starscream giving the move and I had him taking it. That just shows you how different artists approach their work. I had fun adding the laser blast and the scorch mark with smoke.
“Spindebuster”.
BY CROM HE’S BEEN BROKEN IN HALF!
Just some fun with my new Conan and a Graveyard Skellington.
“Press”
People on Bluesky really liked this one. I don’t know what makes some pics hit more than others except when I know I’ve been sloppy but I didn’t put a ton of effort into this one. The crowd is good but the crowd is old work. Anyway, Claudio’s about to hurl Darby into the abyss.
VACATION FIG PHOTO CATCHUP: Part 1
So, here’s the deal. We went on vacation. To Hawaii. With my mom. For two weeks. And then I came back bringing some kind of bug with me that doesn’t trigger Covid or flu antigen tests. So basically posting has been off the menu for three full weeks. At least to the blog.
But I was able to use the drafts feature, a bunch of shots taken in advance, and trip downtime to keep up with the #FebFights prompt list on Bluesky, and since today is the last day of Feb, I’m gonna try to get them all in in a series of four-pic posts.
Starting with “Steel Chair”, a very elaborate pic I did because I thought a wrestler AA meeting would be funny and also I wanted to do a snack table. This ended up being htree shots - table and left side of the circle, most of the right side of the circle, and one bonus dude to the right of Mr. T to fill in a gap.
