Some of the figures on my wrestling Wish List got down to a price point I’m comfortable with, including Swerve Strickland1
I love Swerve. I loved him as Killshot in Lucha Underground, I loved hin in NXT, I loved him enough to watch the Hit Row stuff, and I love him in AEW. I especially loved his title run, so I decided his pic would be him pinning Samoa Joe for the title at Dynasty.
I like his figure fine.
Don’t get me wrong. The head sculpt and tattoos are excellent. The gear is very pre-title. Early Mogul stuff, I think. So it’s a bit outdated. Also, he’s a proud member of the Jazwares Rubber Jacket club. The jacket is one of the nicest rubber jackets in the line, with lots of sculpt and paint detail, but it’s still murder on upper body articulation, so it’s not pictured.
So I thought, maybe, with a significant title reign and some memorable matches under his belt, Jazwares might announce a different fig with some updated gear or something. But nope, the reign came and went, conventions came and went, and no new Swerve figures announced. BOOOO. So I picked up this one to be safe.
On the Jazwares Effort Scale it’s a solid 7.5. They tried harder than an average figure in the line, but didn’t go above and beyond anywhere near what befits his current AEW status. He’s at or above the Hangman Page / Darby Allin level as a talent, and they get a half dozen figures. I can think of at least ONE difference that might explain that…
