IMPULSE GRAB: Maximum Thor!

More like Midimum Thor. The Marvel Legends Maximum Series has not lived up to its promise of maximum articulation, maximum a cessories. They’ve only lived up to is the maximum price point. So I was absolutely going to pass on this Thor.

But I had a pile of store credit at Si-Fi Toys because I’d preordered and prepaid for that Cable re-release because at the itme they were the only one  doing preorders for it. And then when it went in stock at BigBad while Si-Fi could offer no estimate on a possible ship date, I took the store credit. But I needed to apply it to something and while I like the shop in general what they keep in stock at any given time is tiny.

So I got the Thor thinking I could maybe use the cape and heads on my other Thor which also is imperfect in many ways and that’s probably a bust too.

He’s not bad for what I paid. Top of the list are the wired cape and the articulation scheme. Thor really does need a wired cloth cape. It’s non-removable (of course) but it works well. The articulation -scheme- is great, with double everythings, drop hips, the good torso joints, and toes. But a lot of the joints are loose, especially the drop hips, and especially especially the right drop hip. Don’t know if this is endemic or just mine but it’s annoying.

Accessories are a mixed bag. There are three heads with different expressions, and helmeted/unhelmeted hairpieces for six possible head combinations. Good number of hands. A hammer, a flying hammer with a hand molded onto it, a Throg, a horn, a hammer in cane mode, and two of Hasbro’s current  big electric effects. No swooshes. I would have loved some swooshes and motion effects for the hammer. A twirl would have been great. Custom electrical effects that plug into the hammer solidly would have been great too.

So ultimately, worth what I paid but not worth what they charged.

The pic was fun, though. I mean, the loose joints and the impractical electrical effects made actually getting the fight pose a suckfest, but the wall was a huge success. I built it out of Dragons Mega Blox bricks (last seen with KITTY), shot it with lighting that matched with the background, painted the legobumps smooth, then applied a stone texture to it and played with the layer modes and levels until it looked like I wanted it to. Gonna enjoy this technique a lot going forward.
