This is gonna take a while to explain. Bear with me.This is the most inside Bluesky thing I’ve ever done. It’s a sort of tribute/homage/goofemup of Hangcat, a young artist and wrestling fan from Japan who’s an incredibly kind person online. I mean this as the highest compliment, she’s so sincere so consistently that every day it’s not revealed to be a bit or a long con is a delight.
Anyway, one of her big things is drawing really gorgeous, cute fan art of wrestlers Jay White and Darby Allin in a romantic sense. Now, I did not, as of a week or two ago, own a Jay White figure, because despite what you see here, you can’t get ALL the toys. But I grabbed one off eBay and it’s surprisingly good. Soft goods leather jacket, which is always nice. And I planned to do a pic. A pic. Singular. One. That second one there of them winning the championships over the Fatal Fluffies. At Wembley ‘cause it’s the biggest show of the year.
But you know how ideas work. You get one and it leads to another. And then you get a mental image in your head you can’t shake (pic 4). And then you start grabbing Wembley screengrabs and realize you can get a mostly clean entrance ramp. And then you want some narrative consistency. And you end up doing five pics.
Things that did NOT help when making these. The cats, who love a toy wrestling ring more than anything. iOS 27, which has hella broken both the pressure sensitivity and hover features in Affinity with the Apple Pencil. Complicated background removals. My giant clumsy meat hands. The more specific the thing you want, the more you have to redo small mistakes. If the full res versions of these, especially #4, aren’t rife with stray pixels I can’t see, I’ll be shocked.
This sequence is probably also a wrap for projects until mid-October. Need to get everything put away before a bit of travel and hopefully arrange for a Pile of Loot shortly after my return.
